halogens

Chlorine, bromine, iodine

Halogens are the five chemical elements in group 17 of the periodic table: fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine.

They share properties—high reactivity, tendency to form salts with metals, and existence as diatomic molecules.

The name means "salt-producing." Chlorine and fluorine are the most commonly encountered, used in water treatment, refrigerants, and countless industrial processes.
