blizzard
Whiteout winter storm
A blizzard is a severe snowstorm with strong winds and low visibility.
The term implies sustained intensity—not just heavy snow but driving, blinding conditions that make travel dangerous or impossible: The blizzard shut down the highways for two days.
Figuratively, a blizzard describes an overwhelming quantity of things coming at once: a blizzard of paperwork, a blizzard of emails. (Capitalized Blizzard is the video game company.)
