disciple

Learner under guidance

A disciple is a follower who accepts and helps spread the teachings of a leader or philosophy.

The word most often appears in religious contexts—the twelve disciples of Jesus, or disciples of Buddha.

More broadly, anyone devoted to learning from a master qualifies: She became a disciple of the minimalist architect.

A disciple differs from a mere student in the depth of commitment implied.
