pointers

Guidance for understanding

Pointers are tips or pieces of advice: Can you give me some pointers on my resume?

A pointer is also something that points—a stick for indicating items on a display, the cursor on a screen, or a breed of hunting dog that freezes and points its muzzle toward game.

In programming, a pointer is a variable that stores a memory address rather than data itself.
