gas engine

Fuel-burning motor

A gas engine is an internal combustion engine that runs on gasoline, as distinguished from diesel engines or electric motors.

The term appears most often in American English, where gas means gasoline: The mower has a gas engine.

In British usage, gas engine may instead refer to engines running on natural gas or other gaseous fuels.
