fuel efficiency
Miles per gallon
Fuel efficiency measures how far a vehicle travels on a given amount of fuel, or more broadly, how effectively any system converts fuel into useful work.
Higher fuel efficiency means less fuel consumed per distance: The hybrid gets excellent fuel efficiency—over 50 miles per gallon.
The term applies to cars, planes, furnaces, and other fuel-burning equipment.
Fuel-efficient is the adjective form.
