direct injection

Combustion chamber spraying

Direct injection is a fuel delivery system in internal combustion engines where fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber rather than into the intake manifold or port.

This allows for more precise control over the amount and timing of fuel delivery, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and power output.

The technology is common in modern diesel engines and increasingly in gasoline engines, where it's often called GDI (gasoline direct injection).

Her new car has a turbocharged direct injection engine.
