morion

Crested Spanish helmet

A morion is a type of open helmet with a high crest and curved brim, worn by soldiers in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The distinctive shape—rising to a point or ridge at the crown and curving up at front and back—is familiar from depictions of Spanish conquistadors: The museum displayed armor including a polished morion.
