clownfish

Anemone-dwelling swimmer

Clownfish are small, brightly colored tropical fish known for their orange bodies with distinctive white bands outlined in black.

They live among the stinging tentacles of sea anemones in a mutually beneficial relationship—the fish gains protection while helping clean and defend the anemone.

The animated film *Finding Nemo* made them widely recognizable.

Also called anemonefish.
