City of London
London's financial district
The City of London is the historic core of London, a small area of about one square mile that functions as Britain's financial district.
Distinct from Greater London, it has its own government and police force.
Banks and law firms cluster in the City of London.
Often called simply "the City," it refers by metonymy to British financial interests generally: The City reacted nervously to the news.
