floatplane

Water-landing aircraft

A floatplane is an aircraft equipped with pontoons instead of wheels, allowing it to take off from and land on water.

Unlike flying boats, which have boat-shaped hulls, floatplanes are conventional aircraft with floats attached beneath the fuselage: The floatplane taxied across the lake to the dock.

Common in remote areas with many lakes and few runways.
