firefighters
Hose-wielding rescuers
Firefighters is the plural of firefighter—a person trained to extinguish fires and respond to emergencies.
The term has largely replaced fireman as the gender-neutral standard: Firefighters arrived within minutes of the call.
Beyond fighting fires, firefighters perform rescues, provide medical assistance, and respond to hazardous material incidents.
