epithelium
Body's outer layer
Epithelium is the thin tissue that lines the surfaces and cavities of the body—skin, the inside of the mouth, the lining of the gut, the walls of blood vessels.
It forms a protective barrier between the body's interior and the outside world.
Epithelial cells are tightly packed and regenerate quickly, which is why cuts heal and intestinal lining renews itself constantly.
