deep tissue
Beneath the surface
Deep tissue describes a type of massage that targets muscles and connective tissue below the surface layer.
The technique uses sustained pressure to reach deeper structures, breaking up adhesions and relieving chronic tension: I booked a deep tissue massage for my back pain.
The term appears almost exclusively in massage and bodywork contexts.
