squamous epithelium
Flat protective covering
Squamous epithelium is tissue made of flat, scale-like cells that lines body surfaces and cavities.
It forms the outer layer of skin and lines the mouth, esophagus, and blood vessels.
The biopsy revealed normal squamous epithelium.
Simple squamous epithelium is one cell thick; stratified squamous epithelium has multiple layers for protection against abrasion.
