electric field
Force per charge
An electric field is a region of space surrounding an electrically charged particle or object, within which a force would be exerted on other charged particles.
The field's strength diminishes with distance from its source.
Electric fields are fundamental to electromagnetism and explain how charged objects interact without touching—a positive charge creates a field that repels other positive charges and attracts negative ones.
The electric field near high-voltage power lines can be strong enough to ionize air.
