resistivity

Material's opposition measure

Resistivity is a measure of how strongly a material opposes the flow of electric current—the intrinsic resistance of a substance independent of its shape or size.

Materials with low resistivity (copper, silver) conduct electricity well; those with high resistivity (rubber, glass) resist it.

Engineers use resistivity to select materials for wiring, insulation, and semiconductors.
