energy density
Power per volume
Energy density is the amount of energy stored per unit of volume or mass.
Batteries, fuels, and food all have energy densities—higher values mean more energy packed into less space or weight.
Gasoline has a much higher energy density than current lithium-ion batteries.
The concept matters wherever weight or size constrains energy storage: electric vehicles, spacecraft, portable electronics.
