duckweed

Tiny floating plant

Duckweed is a tiny aquatic plant that floats on still water, forming dense green mats on ponds and slow-moving streams.

The plants are among the smallest flowering species, each consisting of a simple leaf-like frond with dangling roots.

Ducks and other waterfowl feed on it, hence the name.

The pond was completely covered in duckweed.
