giant sequoia

Sierra Nevada behemoth

Giant sequoia is an enormous coniferous tree native to California's Sierra Nevada mountains, among the largest living organisms on Earth by volume.

These trees can exceed 250 feet in height and live over 3,000 years.

We stood at the base of a giant sequoia, feeling impossibly small.

Also called Sierra redwood or big tree, distinct from the taller but slenderer coast redwood.
