sawgrass

Everglades signature sedge

Sawgrass is a tall sedge with sharp-edged leaves that can cut skin, native to wetlands of the southeastern United States.

It dominates the Florida Everglades, forming vast expanses called "river of grass." The name comes from the serrated leaf margins, which resemble saw teeth: We waded through sawgrass up to our shoulders.
