limnology
Inland waters study
Limnology is the scientific study of inland waters—lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and wetlands.
The field examines physical, chemical, and biological properties of freshwater systems: The limnology department monitored algae blooms in the reservoir.
A practitioner is a limnologist.
