bladderwort
Aquatic carnivorous flora
Bladderwort is an aquatic or wetland plant notable for its carnivorous nature.
The name comes from small bladder-like traps on its stems that capture tiny organisms such as water fleas and mosquito larvae.
When prey touches trigger hairs on the bladder, a trapdoor opens and water rushes in, sucking the creature inside.
Despite their predatory habits, bladderworts produce delicate yellow or purple flowers that rise above the water surface.
