pond life
Frogs and algae
Pond life refers to the organisms living in ponds—algae, insects, amphibians, and small fish that inhabit still freshwater.
In British slang, pond life is a contemptuous term for people considered worthless or disgusting, the lowest of the low: The tabloids called the rioters pond life.
The insult suggests something primitive and barely worth noticing.
