aquaculture
Cultivating aquatic life
Aquaculture is the farming of fish, shellfish, or aquatic plants—agriculture applied to water.
Fish farms, shrimp ponds, and oyster beds all fall under aquaculture.
The practice ranges from small ponds to industrial-scale operations: Salmon aquaculture has expanded rapidly in Norway and Chile.
Also called aquafarming.
