downrigger
Deep fishing device
A downrigger is a fishing device that uses a weight on a cable to hold bait or lures at a precise depth while trolling.
The line releases from a clip when a fish strikes, allowing the angler to fight the fish without the heavy weight attached: We set the downriggers at forty feet to target lake trout.
