disc brake

Caliper-squeezed stopping system

A disc brake is a braking system in which pads press against a rotating disc attached to the wheel.

Most modern cars use disc brakes on the front wheels, where most stopping power is needed, though many have them on all four.

Disc brakes dissipate heat better than drum brakes and perform more reliably in wet conditions.
