sensitization
Heightened response development
Sensitization is the process of becoming sensitive or being made sensitive to something.
In medicine, it describes the body developing an allergic response after exposure to a substance: Repeated contact with latex can cause sensitization.
In psychology, it means increased responsiveness to a stimulus over time—the opposite of habituation.
More broadly, sensitization refers to raising awareness about an issue: The campaign focused on sensitization to domestic violence.
