cross-tolerance
Transferred drug immunity
Cross-tolerance is a phenomenon where tolerance to one substance produces tolerance to related substances, even without prior exposure to them.
Someone who has developed tolerance to heroin, for instance, will also have reduced sensitivity to other opioids.
The concept appears in pharmacology and addiction medicine: Cross-tolerance between alcohol and benzodiazepines complicates detox protocols.
