predictor

One who anticipates

A predictor is something that indicates or forecasts a future outcome.

In statistics and science, predictors are variables used to estimate other values: Income level is a strong predictor of educational attainment.

More broadly, anything that reliably signals what's coming can be called a predictor: Early test scores are poor predictors of adult success.
