compulsion
Can't help it
Compulsion is an irresistible urge to do something, often against one's better judgment.
The word carries a sense of being driven by forces beyond conscious control: She felt a compulsion to check the locks again.
In psychology, compulsions are repetitive behaviors performed to relieve anxiety, as in obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Compulsion also means the act of compelling—forcing someone to do something: They acted under compulsion, not by choice.
