abbreviating
Making something shorter
Abbreviating is shortening a word, phrase, or text.
You might abbreviate a title (Dr. for Doctor), a state name (CA for California), or a lengthy document to its essential points.
The goal is economy—conveying the same information in less space: I'm abbreviating the report for the executive summary.
