except
Leaving this out
Except as a preposition is closely related in meaning to its noun exception.
It’s used to single out something that is not included in topic of the main part of a sentence.
When except is a conjunction it introduces a condition, exception, or a justification for not doing something: There’s no way to get there except by this road. I would go except it’s raining.
