redaction
Blacking out secrets
Redaction is the act of editing or preparing text for publication, but it now most commonly means the removal or obscuring of sensitive information from a document.
Classified reports released to the public show redactions as blacked-out passages: The heavily redacted memo revealed little.
To redact is to perform this censoring; the redacted portions remain hidden.
