creeks

Narrow flowing waterways

Creeks is the plural of creek, a small stream of flowing water, narrower than a river.

In American English, creek rhymes with "peek"; in British and Australian English, it often rhymes with "brick." The phrase up the creek (or up the creek without a paddle) means in serious trouble with no easy solution.

We hiked along the creeks feeding into the lake.
