skirting board

Floor-wall junction cover

A skirting board is a narrow strip of wood or other material running along the base of an interior wall where it meets the floor.

It covers the joint, protects the wall from scuffs and furniture, and provides a finished look.

The American term is baseboard.

The painter taped off the skirting boards before rolling the walls.
