composite bow
Horn-wood-sinew combination
A composite bow is a bow made from multiple materials—typically wood, horn, and sinew—laminated together to create a weapon more powerful than its size suggests.
The combination exploits each material's properties: horn resists compression on the belly, sinew resists tension on the back.
Composite bows were favored by mounted archers from Central Asia to the Middle East, as their compact size allowed use on horseback while delivering force comparable to much larger wooden bows.
