stalking

Hunting by stealth

Stalking is the act of pursuing someone persistently and obsessively, typically in a way that causes fear or distress.

A stalker may follow, watch, or repeatedly contact their victim, often despite being told to stop.

The word also has an older, neutral sense: to stalk game is to approach prey stealthily while hunting.

She filed a restraining order against the man who had been stalking her.

The lion was stalking a gazelle through the tall grass.
