chinning

Pulling yourself up

Chinning is the act of doing chin-ups—pulling yourself up on a bar until your chin clears it.

The word also describes the act of chatting or gossiping: They spent the afternoon chinning over coffee.

This conversational sense, now old-fashioned, comes from the idea of wagging one's chin.
