bailer

Leak-fighting crew member

A bailer is a container used to scoop water out of a boat, or a person who bails—whether removing water or posting bail for someone's release from jail.

In casual use, a bailer is someone who cancels plans or abandons a commitment: He's such a bailer—he flaked on us again.

Also spelled bailor in legal contexts referring to one who entrusts property to another.
