arming sword

Knight's side weapon

An arming sword is a straight, double-edged medieval sword designed for one-handed use, typically paired with a shield.

The blade usually measures between 28 and 32 inches, with a simple crossguard and a grip sized for a single hand.

It was the standard sidearm of European knights and men-at-arms from roughly the 11th through 14th centuries.

The knight drew his arming sword after his lance shattered.
