dubbing

Adding foreign dialogue

Dubbing is the process of adding or replacing sound in a film or recording.

Most often this means replacing dialogue in one language with another: The movie was dubbed into Spanish.

Dubbing also covers adding sound effects, music, or voiceover to video.

The related sense of copying recordings—dubbing a tape—comes from the same studio practice of layering audio tracks.
