kite shield
Tapered body armor
A kite shield is a large medieval shield shaped like an inverted teardrop or elongated almond, tapering to a point at the bottom.
The design protected a mounted knight's left side from shoulder to leg.
Kite shields were common from the 10th to 13th centuries and appear frequently in depictions of Norman knights, including the Bayeux Tapestry.
