fund
Provide capital for
A fund is a sum of money set aside for a specific purpose: a retirement fund, an emergency fund, a scholarship fund.
Organizations that manage such money are also called funds: hedge funds, mutual funds.
To fund something is to provide money for it: The project was funded by private donors.
In the plural, funds simply means available money: I'm low on funds right now.
