multiplier
What amplifies quantities
A multiplier is something that multiplies—increases or amplifies an effect.
In arithmetic, it's the number by which another is multiplied: in 3 × 4, the multiplier is 3.
In economics, the multiplier effect describes how spending ripples through an economy, each dollar generating additional activity.
In games and scoring systems, a multiplier increases points earned: The combo gave me a 2x multiplier.
More broadly, anything that amplifies results: Social media is a multiplier for both good ideas and bad ones.
