state machine

Finite computational model

A state machine is a system that can exist in a limited number of defined states, transitioning between them based on inputs or conditions.

The concept appears in computing, engineering, and logic: a traffic light cycles through states (red, yellow, green), a vending machine moves from idle to accepting payment to dispensing.

The login process is modeled as a state machine.

State machines formalize behavior by making all possible states and transitions explicit.
