Neville Chamberlain

Neville Chamberlain was British Prime Minister from 1937 to 1940, remembered chiefly for his policy of appeasement toward Nazi Germany.

After negotiating the Munich Agreement in 1938, he declared he had secured "peace for our time"—a phrase that became synonymous with naive diplomacy.

His name now evokes futile attempts to placate aggressors: another Chamberlain moment in foreign policy.
