Boer War

South African struggle

The Boer War refers to either of two conflicts between Britain and Dutch-descended settlers (Boers) in South Africa.

The second (1899–1902) is more commonly meant, a brutal campaign in which British forces used scorched-earth tactics and concentration camps.

The wars ultimately brought Boer territories under British control: My great-grandfather fought in the Boer War.
