Frontline news gatherer
A war correspondent is a journalist who reports from active conflict zones.
The role combines reporting with physical danger—war correspondents embed with military units, interview combatants and civilians, and document conditions on the ground: She spent three years as a war correspondent in Afghanistan.
The term dates to the mid-nineteenth century, when newspapers first sent reporters to cover distant wars.
