Upstate New York
North of Manhattan
Upstate New York is the region of New York State north of New York City and its suburbs.
The exact boundary is disputed—some draw the line at Westchester County, others at Albany or beyond.
The term implies a contrast with the city: more rural, more conservative, colder winters.
She grew up upstate but moved to Brooklyn after college.
Residents sometimes just say "upstate": I'm from upstate.
